  1. A Day with Maine Author, Jennifer Jacobson

    PreK-2 grade students at Atwood Primary had a magical day a few weeks ago when they met Maine author Jennifer Jacobson. The young learners were excited to discover that Jennifer became an author at just four years old by orally creating stories. They enjoyed learning about the inspiration behind her informational picture book, Oh Chickadee! Jennifer shared videos of chickadees, highlighted her favorite pages from the book, and explained her research process as a writer. Students felt empowered by her affirmations of their own potential as writers. #WeAreRSU18 #AtwoodAwesome


  3. First and Second Grade Music Concert

    May 6, 2025

    First and second grade students from Atwood Primary lit up the stage recently during their music concert. Students sang, danced, and played instruments in performances centered around the theme “Colors.” A crowd favorite, the black light effect, added an extra element of excitement. Music teacher Amy Peterson once again choreographed and conducted a spectacular show. Bravo to the young performers! #WeAreRSU18 #AtwoodAwesome


  4. Day of Caring

    The Atwood School community extends sincere appreciation to Ms. Sanborn and students from Messalonskee High School for their efforts on the Day of Caring. These high school students helped clean the school’s entryway, repainted bus lines, and added fresh paint to the playground. Teachers especially enjoyed welcoming back former students who returned to contribute on this special day. #WeAreRSU18 #AtwoodAwesome #EaglePrideMHS


  5. Read-A-Thon Spirit Days

    April 15, 2025

    Atwood Primary School students recently took part in their annual Read-A-Thon fundraising event. As students read at school and at home, teachers and parents logged minutes which led to reaching their school wide goal of 150,000 minutes! Throughout the Read-A-Thon, students showed their reading spirit by taking part in activities such as Read My Shirt Day, Dress Like a Superhero Day, and Book Character Day.  Classrooms showcased creativity and love of books by decorating doors connected to a favorite book! After working as a school-wide team to reach their goal, students are excited to celebrate their reward! Mrs. Bickford’s class used their powers of persuasion to craft a letter asking Mrs. Moody to go into the Dunk Tank at their Atwood Carnival! Atwood staff love the combination of teamwork, school spirit, and love of reading that this event showcases for their school community! #WeAreRSU18 #AtwoodAwesome


  9. Second Grade Egg Drop

    April 1, 2025

    Atwood engineers cultivated their creativity by creating contraptions to protect an egg in an egg drop experiment. Students worked collaboratively to design, test, and revise their thinking. #WeAreRSU18 #AtwoodAwesome
