  1. Fruit Trees Blooming + New Playground Equipment

    May 18, 2023

The Atwood Orchard is in full bloom! Thanks to the Modern Woodman Grant and the Re-tree Us Grant, Atwood has apple, peach, and pear trees in full bloom! The children are enjoying the beautiful blossoms this spring and are looking forward to juicy ripe fruit in the fall!

In addition to the beautiful trees, the Ten Spin finally arrived at Atwood! After months of waiting, the Atwood Primary School finally got to enjoy their Ten Spin! The children raised money for the piece of equipment through their Read-A-Thon. Many children expressed that it was worth the wait! #WeAreRSU18 #AtwoodAwesome

By: Emily Widor, Atwood Primary School Social Worker

The Colby Cares About Kids (CCAK) program is a partnership between local schools and Colby College which facilitates college mentors pairing with students and spending time together at school. To mark the end of a successful year, Colby threw a party! The students were invited to the CCAK BBQ. This event included dancing, a pizza food truck, ice cream, and lots of fun games and crafts. The children and adults all had a wonderful time. #WeAreRSU18 #AtwoodAwesome

  3. Petunia the Pig Visits Atwood Primary School

    May 8, 2023

Last Friday, May 5, Principal Jenny McGee had to make good on a bet! The children were challenged to read 50,000 minutes during their Read-A-Thon, and the students of Atwood did twice that by reading 108,890 minutes!

So, Mrs. McGee had to do what she said she would do – kiss a pig!

Amber and Kip Bragg brought Petunia the Pig in from their Sidney farm, and Mrs. McGee gave the squealing pig a smooch, much to the 233 children’s delight!

  5. How To Make Salt Dough

    May 2, 2023

The kindergarten children in Mrs. Hatch’s class had a fun (and messy) start to their how-to writing unit. Everyone got involved in learning how to make salt dough from scratch! The photos were used to create a digital book that became a reference for kids when they created their own how-to writing pieces. The children were excited to add optional ingredients like glitter and vanilla. They were each able to take home a sample to show their families! #WeAreRSU18 #AtwoodAwesome
