Kindergarteners Fund Little Free Library

During the 2022-2023 school year, I was awarded the KREAtive Classroom Grant which is sponsored by the Kennebec Retired Teachers Association. I was presented this award in response to the service projects my Kindergarten friends and I did throughout each school year! My 2021-2022 Kindergarten class made a decision that we would like to do something a bit more permanent for our school and community by using the funds to build a Little Free Library to be placed in front of the Atwood schoolhouse. With the help of a dear family friend, Brian Watson, who built the beautiful book house with some assistance by my Kindergarten friends, the staining of the house done by my dad, Dan Booth, and the quick help of the RSU 18 Facilities and Grounds team – we now have a new little library for the children to enjoy all year round! It will soon have a Little Free Library plaque that reads Gifted by Mrs. Solis’ 2021-2022 Kinder Kindness Crew…”Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.”

This was a particularly special opening of the little library because my Kindergarten friends who did this Kinder Kindness Project with me were wrapping up their final day as a first grader. It was so special to reunite as a class one more time with almost all of our classmates and teacher friends for this very special project. This class always went above and beyond to show kindness, to show empathy and love within the classroom family we created during their 2021-2022 school year, and to share that love within the walls of Atwood and in the community through other Kinder Kindness Projects. We hope that this little library brings joy to the children of our community and fosters a love of reading and sharing favorite books for many years to come. #WeAreRSU18 #AtwoodAwesome
