Spotting Feelings and Calm Classroom Environment
Mrs. Weatherbie’s classroom at Atwood Primary School is learning about their feelings and how to spot them. She is teaching them that if we understand our feelings (the comfortable ones like peace, happiness, confidence, and love – as well as the uncomfortable ones like anxiety, anger, and sadness), we can make better decisions, use helpful strategies, and be happier people! Some of the strategies students are learning are hand motions that they can do anywhere they happen to be. Other strategies are helpful tools that let them sit and experience their feelings… and then let them go. Finally, they’ve made a promise that no matter what they are feeling, they will not hurt themselves, any person, their work, their classroom, or the school. It’s amazing how spotting feelings has made the students a closer team of learners, and has helped shape their calm classroom! #WeAreRSU18 #AtwoodAwesome
