Atwood 2nd grade visits Colby Museum

The Atwood Primary second-grade classes got the opportunity to visit the Colby Art Museum exhibition called Wíwənikan…the beauty we carry. The exhibition features contemporary art created by the First Nations people of what is now Maine and Maritime Canada. Students got to see gorgeously detailed baskets, canoes, carvings, paintings and beadwork made by artists focused on carrying “the beauty of their ancestors and culture into the future.”

“It was a fabulous experience for the children,” said second-grade teacher Brynn Charest. “They were able to go into a longhouse which was made outside using trees and birch bark. While half of the group was touring the museum the others were down working on an arts and crafts project which was their own decorative basket.”
