Atwood Principal latest MPA honoree in RSU 18

Aug. 2017

For the third time in less than two years, the Maine Principal’s Association has given one of its top honors to an RSU 18 administrator.

Atwood Principal Jennifer McGee was named the MPA 2017 Principal of the year this Tuesday, in a surprise assembly at Atwood Primary.  Mrs. McGee was praised, among other things, for the positive energy and climate she fosters through her leadership.

She joins two other recent honorees on RSU 18’s administrative team.  Now Principal Paula Callan of MHS receive the 2016 MPA Assistant Principal award during her last year in that role, and MMS Assistant Principal Melanie Smith won the honor this year.

“I say strong work and well deserved!” said Superintendent Gary Smith when asked his thoughts on the recognition surrounding the dynamic trio of administrators.  “It is not the easiest road to travel to do the work that gets these recognitions, but it is the most rewarding!”

Superintendent Smith also mentioned the terrific work being acknowledged at all levels across the district, including Custodian of the Year, past Teacher of the Year winners at the county and state level, and 9 Finalists for the Teacher of the year recognition this year alone.
